Turmeric Hair Removal: Does It Really Work?

Turmeric Hair Removal: Does It Really Work?

Have you heard of turmeric before? How about turmeric hair removal? If your answer to both is a big “NO” and you are looking for a way to get rid of that freaky fuzz you’re currently sporting, then you’re in for some enlightening read. Go on… continue.

Now, people say that…

“A woman’s hair is her crowning glory.”

But what if it’s not on her head but on her… face?!

Your initial reaction to that imagery is probably a pained cringe. Right? Well, you’re not the only one who thinks so. No woman would want to sport that kind of hair. No matter how healthy and shiny it might be, because you’ve been taking superfoods such as chlorella or jojoba. Yep, facial hair is definitely not a good accessory for women.

This is why women the world over have spent billions on all kinds of procedures just to remove facial hair. Among the most common ways they resort to are laser hair removal, waxing, electrolysis, plucking, and shaving.

But do you know that there’s a common herb (one you probably have in your kitchen right now) that’s very effective in removing facial hair? No, it’s not honey or any other sticky condiment. Here’s a hint: It’s a cousin of the spicy ginger. You guessed it. It’s turmeric!

Before we tell you how to use turmeric for getting rid of those pesky facial hair, however, let’s first tackle what causes facial hair in the first place?

What Causes Facial Hair in Women?

The most common causes of facial hair in women is because of a condition called Hirsutism. This medical condition happens when a woman has elevated levels of male sex hormones, usually testosterone. A woman with this condition has excess hair in areas where they typically appear in men, such as in the face, chest, and back.

Now, biologically speaking, men and women both have these three sex hormones:

  • Estrogen – the main female sex hormone
  • Progesterone – the secondary female sex hormone
  • Testosterone – the main male sex hormone

It’s just that for women they have more of the female sex hormones estrogen than testosterone while men have more testosterone than estrogen. Progesterone is a secondary female sex hormone and is a sort of “third wheel” in the sex hormone game. It is nonetheless an important hormone as it helps balance the effects of estrogen in both genders.

Now that we’ve talked about what causes unwanted fuzz in women, let’s proceed to the crux of the matter, shall we? How do we use the humble turmeric herb in removing facial hair?

What is Turmeric?

Turmeric

Turmeric is a yellow spice that’s commonly used for cooking.  And as we’ve mentioned, it is a cousin of ginger and the very spice that gives yellow curry its color.  Now, it may seem like a strange ingredient for enhancing beauty, but it has long been used by Indian women to aid them in many ways concerning the skin.

In fact, the turmeric hair removal method is quite popular with Indian women. You see, there are compounds in this particular superfood that remove unwanted hair as well as inhibit its re-growth. How do they use it? They turn it into paste.

When turmeric paste is applied to the skin, it can stick like mild glue. And when it is scrubbed or wiped off, the hair comes off along with it, usually from the roots. If you do this regularly, the process actually lessens hair growth over time. And when some hair do grow back, they will be finer.

But Beware…

Although turmeric is effective in removing fine hairs, it may not be as efficient on dense or heavy hair.

Also, when you use turmeric on your skin, it has a powerful staining ability. But don’t worry, that yellow hue is not permanent, and you can easily remove it. What you can do to remove the yellow stain on your skin is to gently scrub the area with some baking soda mixed with soap. You can also use a cotton ball dipped in milk, if you don’t like the baking soda and soap mixture.
